Philippe Van de Velde, graduated as an interior architect from Sint-Lucas Ghent, initially worked as a designer for several years at the Ghent-based production house Impressant.
In 2005, the Timefestival commissioned a theatrical installation, marking the inception of Studio ORKA, the theater company he co-founded shortly thereafter with Martine Decroos.
STUDIO ORKA evolved into a collective of theater makers and designers creating family performances in diverse locations, quickly gaining acclaim both nationally and internationally. Philippe Van de Velde was part of the artistic core, crafting the acclaimed, fantastical, and enchanting sets in his own workshop.
In addition to his work for ORKA (the company stopped in 2023), he also worked as a multidisciplinary artist for various other clients.
His innovative perspective on the world and how he translates it into his designs has been, is, and remains a key factor in his unique creations and visual language.
For Nodenaysteen, he designed a playful art installation in relation to the site, which was then still in the renovation phase. Several television screens and organic supports, resembling tree trunks, formed an intriguing aesthetic contrast. Symbolizing the gallery in progress, where contrasts between nature, art, architecture, and technology would find a place.
